The Maple Theater: Movie Theater Meets Restaurant and Bar

By Kelly Church

For Bloomfield Hills, MI, The Maple Theater has always been a popular movie theater. With the addition of a restaurant that serves fresh fare and cocktails, the renovated theater is full service for a night out on the town. In addition to showing new releases specializing in independent, art, and high-end commercial film, The Maple Theater also shows opera, ballet, concert films, anime, plays and other live performances.

"If you haven't been here lately, you have not been to the Maple," Ruth Daniels, Managing Partner, says. "What was once a popular movie theater for film lovers and cinephiles has now become a popular restaurant and coffee house in addition to the theater. We serve fresh food made in house, including amazing burgers (beef, turkey and veggie), salads and soups."

The restaurant serves appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, pizza and more. Menu items run the gamut. Start with Tso's chicken on lettuce with an Asian slaw, sliders, chicken and green chile nachos, wings or the spinach artichoke dip. Move onto a grilled cheese, fish tacos, macaroni and cheese, turkey burger or vegetable pizza entrée.

Or, guests can opt for lighter options in the form of a roasted beet and arugula salad, Maple Maurice salad, quinoa salad or house made soup. There is a large number of vegan, gluten free, vegetarian and kids items as well.

In the theater, popular new releases are shown. Recently, movies including Allied and Loving were shown. The Maple Theater often does special presentations for one night only, as well. Coming up in the middle of December is Caesar & Cleopatra, a comedic film about the relationship between Julius Caesar and Cleopatra. The theater is small with three movie screens, however, so theater options are more limited than a typical movie theater.
