The Barre Takes Center Stage at Center Stage Barre

By Jake Levin

Barre workouts are for everyone, according to Sam Strager.

The founder and master trainer at Center Stage Barre in Royal Oak, Mich., described her gym as a high-energy group fitness class that incorporates elements of Pilates, yoga, personal training and other dance inspired exercises.

"We are an ever evolving mix of movement," Strager said. "You will never take the same class twice."

Ballet barres, light hand weights, various other props and most importantly, your own body strength, are used to work every muscle in the body from head to toe, Strager said.

While she admitted that there is a learning curve for the Barre workouts, Strager encouraged those interested to give themselves 10 classes to get acquainted with the medium and take it from there.

"It takes a few for your body to learn the language and make sense of the exercises," she said. "Also take the modifications. They are built into every class. Work at your own pace, take breaks when you need them and be patient with the process. You have to start somewhere."

Strager loves connecting with her clientele and watching them grow both inside and outside of the classroom. She said that all of the women who have connected through Center Stage Barre have become fast friends.

"Inside, growing stronger progressing while seeing changes in their body and life outside of class," Strager said. "It also excites me when I see all the friends that are made at Center Stage."

The cardio infused Barre studio is open seven days a week and is located at 405 S. Center St. in Royal Oak.

"Our class is a one hour party for you," Strager said. "No invitation needed just sign up, show up and see results."
