Sample Michigan Craft Beers and Finger-licking Fare at M-Brew

A friendly neighborhood beer joint, M-Brew in Ferndale, Michigan has given local craft brewers a great opportunity to get their suds samplings to the public. "Mitten" brewers, as owner Dean Bach calls local brew masters, are some of the most creative pioneers he has worked with.

"Mitten brewers are crazy creative...like [mad scientists]," he said. "The freakishly fun flavor profiles they pull off keep the Michigan beer bum community engaged and their taste buds enlightened."

Whether it's a cold brew you are craving or a cup of maple-bacon coffee by the fireplace, M-Brew delivers the goods. Their comfort food pays homage to the state's blue collar fare. Menu specialties include Detroit-style pizzas made with Pincooning cheese, Pasties from a family "Yooper" recipe that originated in Bruce Crossing, and smoked pulled pork. There is also a slew of gas-station type snacks such as jerky, pickled eggs, steak and cheese, and pretzel pillows that can be washed down with crisp, icy cold craft beer.

"The next time you get an itch for a good old Michigan road trip, buckle up and take a tour on your road to Michigan flavor?M-Brew," Bach said. "Downtown Ferndale has creative artisan shopping from our retailers such as the Rust Belt Market [and] many refreshingly fun and friendly festivals that have a 'welcome to our home' feel to them."

There are many independent entertainment venues such as Go Comedy Improv Joint, the Ringwald and the Magic Bag, live music venues like Dino's Lounge, also owned by Bach, Loving Touch, and the Nu Way. Downtown Ferndale is a bustling community with a very eclectic mix of restaurants. It has been dubbed the de facto brunch capital of Michigan.

M-Brew rotates its craft beers regularly, and is always in search of small-batch, creative brewers who are not afraid to take a risk. Supporting local businesses is at the core of Bach's mission as he loves to give them a chance to get exposure for their product.

"M-Brew is my attempt to bring the flavors and feel of all eight corners of our state to the people of the Detroit area," Bach said. "If you don't have the time to go up north or out west on Lake Michigan on vacation, you can simply come to M-Brew and 'stay-cation' in our relaxing, chill, cottage of soothing sights, sips, bites, and smells."

For Bach, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the smiles on people's faces as they savor every bite of his culinary creations and gulp the fresh local brews he personally selects for his menu.
