Safari Playground Brings Fun and Adventure to Kids Indoors

By Pamela Sosnowski

As the days become darker, shorter, and colder in some regions during the winter months, taking the kids to the local outdoor playground is not an option for many parents. In Walled Lake, however, Safari Playground offers year-round fun and adventure for children of all ages.

"Safari Playground is a kid friendly place that is very clean and organized," says owner Nick Sesi. "It is one of the best family entertainment centers around. We offer video games with a prize redemption counter, mini-bowling lanes, Dippin' Dots and coming soon, a 3,100 square-foot laser tag arena."

The heart of the family entertainment center is a huge, strong two-tiered play structure that features a bridge and is capable of holding up to 153 children at a time. Additional attractions include a photo booth with customizable backgrounds, and an arcade with a majority of games that dispense redemption tickets. Some of the games also offer a chance at winning a major prize such as an Apple iPad, a Kindle, or a gift card.

Safari Playground also offers mini bowling with added bumper guards that can be activated so the littlest and newest bowlers are guaranteed to knock down pins, as well as several skeeball games. Although tokens must be purchased to play the arcade games, there is no general admission fee to use the arcade. The Safari Play Structure costs $7 per child, and parents are always free.

When kids and parents have worked up an appetite from all of the activity, they can grab one of the many treats on the menu such as freshly made hand-tossed pizza, burgers, sandwiches, subs, chicken wings, salad from a freshly stocked bar, and more. The kids' menu features meals that come with fries and a drink for only $5, and the park also sells slurpees, coffee and other beverages, and Dippin' Dots, which is cryogenically frozen ice cream.

Safari Playground offers several packages for special occasions. "We host all types of parties especially birthday parties," says Sesi. "We offer party platters made in house."

Party packages require an 8-child minimum, and include food, unlimited drinks, unlimited play time in the play structure, arcade tokens for each child, and bonus tickets for the birthday child. Although no outdoor food may be brought in, birthday cakes are allowed for a purchased birthday party package. The facility has also hosted holiday parties, fundraiser events, and school field trips.

The playground is open seven days a week, from 10 AM to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. Memberships are also available for the repeat visitor. No matter what time of the year someone chooses to visit, Safari Playground delivers fun in a family-friendly environment.
