Reforming Foundations: Pilates with a Small-Town Touch

By Elisha Neubauer

Pilates is a physical fitness craze that has been sweeping the nation for the last few decades. As the program has continued to gain traction, studios have popped up all across the US from big city urban areas to smaller rural townships. Everyone has jumped on board, from small family-owned operations to large corporate style structures.

In Berkley, Michigan, Reforming Foundations is offering that small-town feel in their own little corner of Pilates heaven.

When you enter Reforming Foundations, you'll immediately notice the warm, inviting feeling emulating from the décor. Everything from the layout of the studio to the natural lighting and color palette has been meticulously considered to help facilitate a relaxed and comfortable experience.

"We believe that anyone can be graceful and strong," Brooke Goodwin, studio owner, said. "To back this up, our studio is meticulously designed to provide a relaxed and therapeutic setting for your Pilates experience."

Of course, the layout of the studio would mean nothing without efficient, experienced instructors. At Reforming Foundations, that's exactly what you'll get. The instructors are friendly and genuinely invested in their client's health. They truly want you to succeed and want to be a part of that journey to success.

"The instructors are the heart of our studio," Goodwin said.

As the entire team is invested in the clients' achievements, they welcome beginners with open arms. Not wanting them to be scared off by being thrown into classes with little forewarning, the team coaches each person individually to ensure they feel secure and comfortable with everything they are doing. The machines utilized in the process can be intimidating upon first sight, but they are there to walk you through and teach you step by step.

"Pilates is an art form so don't worry about becoming an expert overnight," Goodwin said. "Pilates is all about posture and alignment so take your time to get your form just right and enjoy the stretch."
