Nature's Playhouse Returns Children's Play and Family Wellness to Simpler Times

By Kelly Church

Nature's Playhouse is where play and wellness meet for young children in Ferndale, MI. Sarah Doyle is the co-owner of the all-natural play facility and wellness center that provides pre-natal and post-natal services, family fitness, massage and reflexology, and more.

"In collaboration with community partnership and a special team of teachers, counselors and instructors, each certified and licensed in their area of specialty, Nature's Playhouse is committed to supporting families and maternal wellness," Doyle said.

The facility provides an escape for children, as they believe the world over-stimulates young children through available play choices. Nature's Playhouse "offers a return to the play experiences of yesteryear."

Nature's Playhouse offers support for parents and families through playtime, classes, fitness and workshops. From the pre-natal experience through the child's youth, Nature's Playhouse is a resource.

"Ferndale's cozy spot for families to gather, learn and grow, at Nature's Playhouse we pride ourselves on supporting the family as a whole, from pregnancy through early childhood," Doyle said.

Nature's Playhouse introduced two new classes this summer, Little Wonders and Summer STEAM Exploration. Little Wonders is for kids 18 months up to three years old. It encourages literacy, sensory exploration and math skills. Kids are given a take home project each class, and parents are provided ideas for activities in the home that support what the kids learn at Nature's Playhouse.

Summer STEAM Exploration is for kids between the ages of three and five. During this class, students learn about science, technology, engineering, arts and music. Doyle said this class helps kids explore their creative problem solving skills.

Families can also take fitness classes at Nature's Playhouse. Pre-natal yoga and dancing for birth are offered for moms-to-be. Parents can also take classes with their children, including family yoga, baby and me yoga, baby and me workout, and more.

Wellness services at Nature's Playhouse are available for parents and families. Free weekly pregnancy support groups are offered for soon-to-be parents. There are also clinicians at the facility with experience in perinatal anxiety and mood disorders, so families can seek counsel through these resources. Parents can seek therapy services while their kids play safely. Various types of massage, reiki and reflexology are also offered for mind and body wellness.

"We pride ourselves on being a safe space for families to be and grow together," Doyle said. "This is what we love, building a supportive and nurturing community for families. After all, it takes a village."
