By Elisha Neubauer

Finding the right college or university can prove complicated, but if you're interested in the STEM or Business side of the career world, Kettering University should be up on top of your must-see campuses. Currently the only University in the country solely focused on those topics, Kettering prides itself on preparing students for the workforce through an individualized educational program.

"All students alternate terms between a rigorous, hands-on academic and laboratory setting on campus and immersive, paid professional co-op placements in industry," explains Kip Darcy, Vice President for Marketing, Communication, and Enrollment at Kettering University. "This allows students to immediately gain professional practice related to their field of study, and also allows them to graduate with two and a half years of paid professional experience."

Clearly, Kettering's unique methods work, as they have been ranked as one of the top universities in the country and listed as number one for Return on Investment in the State of Michigan, according to a report on Payscale.com. "Our exceptional educational outcomes have also been noted in rankings by U.S. News and World Report, CNN Money, The Economist, Automobile Magazine and the U.S. Department of Education's College Scorecard, among others," states Darcy, proudly.

Due to its impressive recognition over the years, Kettering has managed to accumulate a stunning array of industry partners that help propel students into beneficially careers. "We have more than six hundred industry partners who employ Kettering students, including General Motors, Ford, Bosch, Lear, Delphi and NASA?to name a few," Darcy says.

In addition to high-quality education, industry partners, and an impeccable reputation, Kettering University also helps provide financial aid to qualifying students. "A large percentage of our students do qualify for and receive some form of financial aid, including scholarships, grants and student loans," Darcy tells us. From the moment a student steps onto the Kettering campus, they are quickly adjusted into a schedule that prepares them for their future career.

"Students are in campus or work terms year-round, and that intense schedule teaches them to be focused multi-taskers," Darcy details. "Kettering students are prepared to be industry and civic leaders from the moment they arrive on campus." He goes on, explaining another aspect of the institution's mission. "Kettering also considers service a critical component of the university's mission, and as such, encourages and facilitates student involvement in a variety of community projects and initiatives in the city of Flint." The resulting effect is obvious: graduates who not only possess the technical knowledge required in their field, but the skills and understanding of the workforce itself.
