Kensington Hotel Welcomes You to Their All-New, Fully Renovated Space

By Kelly Church

In the neighborhood of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI is an alternative to chain hotels that you can find anywhere in the country: The Kensington Hotel. Located on State Street, the hotel is completing a multi-million dollar renovation that includes redecorating and updating guestrooms, event spaces, public areas and the onsite restaurant. Daniel Fine, General Manager at The Kensington Hotel, says the renovations are embracing the local college culture while adopting a modern and welcoming feel.

"The recent renovation has transformed the traditional iconic hotel to an urban boutique, offering a unique travel experience unlike any other regionally," Fine says. "With the use of greys, blues and maize yellow, the Chicago-based designers created a warm and inviting environment with all the modern touches, while accenting the local college spirit of the University of Michigan."

Upon check-in, guests of legal age are offered champagne to welcome them to the hotel. Guest rooms feature Beekman 1802 bathroom supplies, wireless high-speed Internet, a mini refrigerator, safety deposit boxes, a Bluetooth phone and access to everything on the property. Every morning, guests can help themselves to the complimentary Viennese Coffee Bar to get ready for the day. Also available is an upgraded fitness center, heated indoor pool, dry sauna and whirlpool.

The Kensington Hotel is also home to Graham's Restaurant, a steakhouse serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The environment is casual, welcoming all guests for comfort food and drinks. They play major sports events on the televisions, making it the perfect escape for anyone looking to catch a game. Many menu items are made from local ingredients that Fine calls "fresh and honest," sourced from farms and purveyors in the area, an attempt to highlight the best agriculture the state has to offer. Graham's Restaurant is open Thursday through Sunday from 6:30AM-2 and then again from 5-10PM, and Friday and Saturday from 6:30AM-10. Guests may also opt to order room service through the restaurant as well.
