Get Better With Age at Studio M Pilates

By Jake Levin

Molly Baran has lived and breathed a lifestyle of activity.

With a nonstop motor that takes her from summer sailing to winter skiing comes wear and tear on the body. But through the practice of Pilates at her very own studio, Studio M Pilates, she's been able to maintain her activities into her older age. Baran encourages you to do the same at her Birmingham, Mich. location.

"You will gain core stability and strength," Baran said. "A method long used by professional athletes from dancers to football players, Pilates is a method of training the body to work from the core. When the body moves from the core, your strength, flexibility, agility and control improve. When working on the equipment such as the Pilates Reformer there is resistance through full range of motion using springs as the resistance. Pilates focuses on quality of movement, not quantity."

Baran feels as though she's created a comfortable environment in her studio, which she's owned for nine years. The studio uses only the finest equipment, the Balance Body Pilates brand consisting of reformers, combination towers, Cadillac and chairs.

For beginning practitioners of Pilates, Baran recommends starting with three private lessons, as it will allow you to learn exactly what your body needs. No matter your level of experience, Baran has been practicing for 25 years, and her and her staff are only committed to giving you the highest quality of training possible.

"We consider our clients' lifestyle, work life and other athletic activities when developing your training," she said. "You are an individual; your sessions should reflect that."

Individual sessions, as well as semi-private group sessions of up to six trainees, are available. If you still remain skeptical of the benefits of Pilates, look no further than what Baran has been able to accomplish after years of practicing it herself.

"For me, after years of teaching aerobics and running, Pilates took away back pain and helped strengthen in a way I could not believe," Baran said. "I feel I do those thing better than when I was young."
