By Kelly Church

Red Velvet Cakes and Pastries is a Clinton Township, MI bakery that inspired by everything red velvet. The popular flavor for cakes and cupcakes has a vibrant red hue that many choose for weddings and other celebrations. Red Velvet Cakes and Pastries President Dan Matoski is one of many bakers in his family and wants his baked goods to honor his customers' childhoods.

"We are a fourth-generation family that is in the baking business, which means that there are decades of fine-tuning old world recipes to satisfy modern day cravings," Matoski said "[This] allows us to ensure the taste of your childhood is never compromised."

For cakes, customers can choose from many flavors, not just red velvet. In fact, Red Velvet Cakes and Pastries has all the traditional flavors, with a few nontraditional flavors added in the mix. Unique flavors include cherry chip, almond, banana, cherry nut and banana nut. With those cake flavors, customers have an assortment of filling flavors to choose from as well. Anyone can customize with butter cream, raspberry, cream cheese, white chocolate or even cannoli cream, to name just a few.

Wedding cakes have the same flavor options as traditional cakes, with added decoration. All cakes can be single, double or triple layers, and can serve as few as four people or as many as 225. Sheet cakes are also available.

Red Velvet Cakes and Pastries cupcakes are simply decorated and come in a variety of flavors. Traditional flavors include red velvet, carrot, double chocolate, vanilla and peanut butter. More nontraditional flavors include caramel dip, white chocolate lumpy bumpy, chocolate lumpy bumpy and cannoli cream. The bakery also offers seasonal cupcakes, of which include caramel apple, peppermint patty, 'smores, Samoa and maple bacon.

When it comes to providing proper customer service, Matoski said his years of experience, and his family's history, help him stand out. In fact, when it comes to describing his business, one of the most important things he wants his customers to know is how far he and his team are willing to go for customer satisfaction.

"Being born and raised in the family business has allowed me to develop a work ethic that is second to none," Matoski said. "This has also allowed me to establish the best team that with all our hard work, we continue to bring smiles to all that walk through our doors. We are always willing to take the next challenge in making your day special."
