Denson Construction Services Brings a Woman's Touch To The Building Industry

By Pamela Sosnowski

Even in the 21st century, construction is still an industry dominated by men. But Asia Denson is paving the way for women to consider a career in the business. As the owner and president of Denson Construction Services, her Detroit-based residential and commercial contractor company, she believes she has something a little different to offer her clients.

"I am a woman owned business and I truly listen to my clients wants/needs," she explained. "I have noticed that my clients prefer me over others because I pay attention to detail along with their wants/needs and quality is my number one concern. I believe in doing it right the first time and if there are any issues we have no problem coming back to fix it."

The company has been serving clients throughout the metro Detroit area since 2010. Services encompass all areas of a property and include full renovations, bathroom and kitchen renovations, basement waterproofing, flooring projects, interior work, and more. Denson Construction Services also buys and sells homes and can assist with foreclosure closeouts and cleanings. Denson's staff is friendly, honest, and willing to answer questions and provide complete transparency before and during a project. That starts with Denson herself. In fact, she's been accused a few times of over contacting her clients, which she believes is a good thing.

"I communicate throughout the entire project so you will not have to worry, and I literally guide/consult you on what/where to buy and what type of renovation you should complete," she said. "I am very honest, sometimes too honest, and a lot of my clients love that about me. You will never have to worry about the progression of your project nor if I will show up or not."

Denson has always been jazzed about construction. She graduated with honors in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Jackson State University before obtaining her master's degree in construction management from Eastern Michigan University in 2012. She worked in highway engineering before launching Denson Construction Services. One of her next business goals is to start an apprenticeship program geared at at-risk youth, ex-offenders, and adults, and train them to become electricians, carpenters, and other construction professionals. In her spare time, Denson volunteers with several local communities including Big Brother Big Sister and Habitat for Humanity.

Denson Construction Services has been nominated for several "best of" Detroit awards, and has amassed many glowing recommendations from clients. The company holds several certifications including the Woman Owned Small Business (WOSB) certification. An estimate costs $100, which may be applied towards the project if the company is hired.

Denson loves any type of home project, but she has a special place in her heart for the worse-case scenarios she takes on.

"The best part about my field is seeing a house at its worse," she said. "I mean destroyed and gutted to the studs but being able to give it a little love and affection in order to bring it back to life."
