Body Images Fitness Center Provides Fitness, Without The Limitations Of A Gym

By Kelly Church

Body Images Fitness Center has been offering Shelby Township, MI classes across all areas of fitness since 1999. However, owner Pamela Paul started her business in 1988 and was the one of the first to offer classes to the community. Paul's entire family is involved in the business, with her husband and daughter serving as coaches. Paul insists her studio isn't your average gym, or even a gym at all.

"We are not a gym," Paul said. "We have no membership fees or contracts. We specialize in private one-on-one personal training and small group training."

Personal training sessions are 55 minutes and are sold at a minimum of six sessions per client. The goal of selling at least six sessions to every client is so all trainees can get the most out of their trainings and have a good understanding of movement in the gym.

Small groups sessions include between three and eight people. Clients use TRX suspension training systems, which are straps that hang from the ceiling and use body weight instead of free weights for strength. The Hoist motion cage is also frequently used. There are many classes to choose from at the studio, including low impact aerobics and step classes. Clients see improvement in their strength, cardio, balance and core. Many experience weight loss.

Body Images Fitness Center also has nutrition programs that help clients reach their overall health goals.

"Nutritional programs and healthy clean eating habits are taught and encouraged for every student/client as part of their exercise program," Paul said. "I also have a weight loss nutritional program called AdvoCare that we offer to our clients as a jumpstart to nutritional and clean eating."

Paul's studio is "dedicated to bringing you an individualized, safe, effective and innovative fitness program" without the typical confines of a gym. Prices are competitive, and Paul said her studio is friendly and welcoming.

"Our non-competitive atmosphere makes everyone feel comfortable as soon as they walk in the door," Paul said. "Seeing people reach their fitness goals, feeling accomplished and improving their quality of life is the biggest reward we have and it is why we do what we do every day with empathy, compassion, encouragement and lots of love."
