Art & Frame Station Brings Out The Artistic Vibrancy of Birmingham, Michigan

By Paul Rowe

Framing is an art form. Creating the exact look to match a client's needs by matching the moulding, liner, matting, or fillet to a specific work of art is what drives the talented framers at Birmingham's Art & Frame Station. From the finest oil painting to a toddler's crayon drawing, these seasoned framing experts pride themselves in their ability to enhance artistic experiences without distracting from the unique vision of each piece.

Specializing in exceptional framing and showcasing work from Michigan's accomplished artists and craftsmen, Art & Frame Station has consistently provided Birmingham and the surrounding Metro Detroit area with inspired designs.

The ornate art found in the Art & Frame Station's highly celebrated gallery ranges from original oil paintings, lithographs, and watercolors, to limited edition and antique prints and posters. Work from nationally-acclaimed artists such as Martha Stuart, Beatrix Potter, Holly Sue Foss, and Trisha Romance has found its home at the Art & Frame Station's gallery.

The Art & Frame Station also features Michigan made gifts, crafts, and collectibles that cannot be found elsewhere in the country such as gorgeous candles from the Davisburg Candle Factory and a splendid array of dried cherries, cherry syrup, and chocolate covered cherries from Cherry Republic. Hand painted glassware, hand thrown pottery, and exclusive, handcrafted cards can be found throughout the store.

"Our designers are all expert framers and have won numerous awards within the framing industry including the prestigious Judges Award from the International Professional Picture Framers Association," owner Jill Haury said. "We not only frame everything in-house using lengths of moulding and our computerized mat cutter, but we also have a complete wood shop where we make our own custom mouldings and shadow boxes of any size and depth."

The Art & Frame Station has been known to collaborate with other companies on spectacular crafts. Recently, the Station has partnered with Intricate Photo Printing, a dye-sublimation company in Holly, Michigan creating spectacular images on metal, tile, and canvas from digital images. These images can be hung without frames, achieving an authentic, contemporary minimalist aesthetic. The variety of artwork and the sheer versatility of framing is what keeps things interesting here.

"One thing is for sure, working at the Art & Frame Station you never know what is coming through the door next," Haury said. "One day it is children's finger painting, the next it's an original Warhol, and the next it's a full-size Elvis studded jumpsuit."

At Art & Frame Station, framers take a piece of art, frame it in just the right way, and morph the piece before your eyes from an elegant piece for the home into a beach house addition and back to an office traditional in a matter of minutes. The customizations are endless.
