A Mid-Century B&B in the Heart of Ann Arbor

By Elisha Neubauer

Directly on the campus of the University of Michigan, you can find Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast. A mid-century boutique style B&B, the facility offers nine unique rooms within walking distance of the hottest spots in Ann Arbor. All amenities are provided, making the Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast the perfect location to either hide-away from the world or explore the streets of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

"Each of our nine themed rooms has a king or queen pillow-top bed, en-suite bathroom, and eclectic décor," states Pat Materka, owner and innkeeper of the Ann Arbor Bed and Breakfast. Each room has its own theme, making every experience slightly different for guests. The Yellowstone room portrays a rustic ambiance, with log walls and an antique dry sink next to its large walk-out shower.

The Rainforest room offers a décor filled with frogs and toucans, while in the Laguna Beach room, guests sleep under a breaking wave. "Our amenities include free onsite covered parking, free Wi-Fi, a DVD library, guest computer with printer attached, complimentary beverages and snacks, and of course a hearty full breakfast served buffet style daily."

When it comes to things to do outside of the B&B, there's no end in sight. Ann Arbor is a diverse area, hosting a collegiate population of varied ages, likes, and liveliness. The summer is always abuzz with events and the compressed center of town allows for walking as a primary source of transportation. "As we are located directly on the edge of campus, guests can walk everywhere," Materka says. "The community is friendly and outgoing."

Within a half-mile of the B&B, you can find Zingermans Deli, Hill Auditorium, Michigan League & Union, North Quad, Medical school and hospital, Palmer Commons, Dentistry, Chemistry, Natural Resources, Law School, Mathematics, ISR/ICPSR, Art-Dinosaur-Archeology Museums, Michigan Theater, Main Street restaurants, Kerrytown's Farmers Market and several other shops.

Within Ann Arbor itself, you can explore 48 dinner-class restaurants (and 120 other places to eat!), 55+ galleries and eclectic boutiques, a Hands-On Museum, Saturday Farmers Market, Sunday Artisans Market, and many bookstores. There's literally something for everyone. For those looking to venture a little further, within 30 miles of the B&B you can visit the Southeast Michigan wine trail, the F-150 Ford truck assembly line, and Greenfield Village.

"Our B&B is steps away from Power Theater, Hill Auditorium, 2 movie theaters, within a 5-10-minute walk to four different museums, and a mile from the livery where you can rent canoes and kayaks to paddle on the Huron River," affirms Materka.
