5 Best Towns For Renters In Macomb County

A town is smaller than a city and usually unincorporated. Macomb County is north of densely populated Detroit in Wayne County and bordered by Lake St. Clair on its lower east side. There are over 25 towns in Macomb County, Michigan. Looking at vacancy rate and average rent, here is the exclusive list of the top five best towns for renters in Macomb County.

1. Eastpointe

With a population of nearly 31,000 and 15 miles north of Detroit, Eastpoint has many more single-family homes for rent than apartments. Stand-alone homes are very affordable. Three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses rent for about $900, while two-bedroom, one-bathroom houses can be rented for as low as $725. Apartments run $495 for a one bedroom and $775 for a two bedroom, one bathroom.

2. Shelby

Less than an hour from Detroit, Shelby offers both apartment and single-family home rentals. Its population is over 71,000 people. Apartment prices run as low as $575 for a one bedroom up to $1,500 for a three-bedroom and three-bath pad. Monthly rental prices for houses are $2,500 for a four-bedroom/four-bathroom home to an average of $1,000 for a two bedroom.

3. Utica

Utica is a town of 4,500 residents with a decent pool of rental properties for a town of its size. Rentals are mostly houses with a few scattered apartments. Rent a two-bedroom, two bathroom home for an average of $1,100 and a three-bedroom, three bathroom place for $1,800. Square footage is also a plus, with two bedrooms averaging 1,250 square feet. Get away from the larger areas and get a boom for your buck.

4. New Baltimore

New Baltimore is another smaller town with a waterfront view and beach that's worth checking out. Only 35 miles from Detroit with a population of 7,400, this town has mainly house rentals with few apartments. Square footage averages are similar to those in Utica. In New Baltimore, two-bedroom apartments can be rented for $795. Two bedroom houses run from a low of $600 to over $1,000 depending on size, age and number of bathrooms while three bedrooms can be rented for an average of $1,450.

5. Mt. Clemens

Influences abound from Macomb's early German farming settlers. Today's population is over 71,000. Rentals are priced from $2,300 for a four-bedroom house with almost 3,000 square feet to two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes averaging $1,200. Apartments run $700 for a one bedroom, one bathroom to $1,000 for a two bedroom.
